Dr William Bird
I have been a doctor for 30 years and will continue to see patients for many years to come. I believe strongly in building people's resilience through understanding themselves, their emotions and resulting actions and how their relationship with nature and people around them determines their health. This is the basis of People Purpose and Place.
I set up Green Gyms and Health Walks in the 1990s to help my patients in South Oxfordshire to become more active from their doorstep. This has engaged 5 million people to become more active in their local neighbourhood. In 1999 I joined the Met Office to develop health forecasting and worked on the impact of Climate Change on health but also the impact of poor air quality. In 2006 I was health lead in Natural England where we worked on creating a Natural Health Service looking at the benefits of nature on health resulting in co-editing the Oxford Textbook of Nature and Public Health.
More recently I founded Intelligent Health to get more people active at scale through the game Beat the Street that has now reached 1.2 million people.
This site is an attempt to draw everything together to through personal commitments that I will try to deliver in 2021
